John Grimes 
John was born in 1788 in Duplin County, North Carolina.1 John's father was James Grimes and his mother was Sarah Winders. His paternal grandparents were Hugh Grimes and Elizabeth Whitehead; his maternal grandfather was John Winders. He had seven brothers and four sisters, named Lewis, James, Jr., William, Thomas, Stephen, Isaac, Bryan, daughter, daughter, daughter and daughter. He was the fifth oldest of the twelve children. He died at the age of 49 in 1837 in Stewart County, Georgia.1 
John and Catharine were married in a religious ceremony on December 21st, 1813 in Duplin County, North Carolina.2 They had four sons and six daughters, named James Haywood, John William, Felix Kenan, Robert Franklin, Hepsabeth, Anne Elizabeth, Mary Catharine, Martha Jane, Sarah Evalina and Angeline.

John William Grimes
John William was born on May 17th, 1820 in Duplin County, North Carolina.1 He died at the age of 66 on September 8th, 1886 in Elba, Coffee County, Alabama. He was buried in Holland-Grimes Cemetery, Elba, Coffee county, Alabama.1 1
