James Haywood Grimes 
James Haywood was born in 1819 in North Carolina.1 James Haywood's father was John Grimes and his mother was Catharine Frederick. His paternal grandparents were James Grimes and Sarah Winders. He had three brothers and six sisters, named John William, Felix Kenan, Robert Franklin, Hepsabeth, Anne Elizabeth, Mary Catharine, Martha Jane, Sarah Evalina and Angeline. He was the third oldest of the ten children.
