James Grimes 
James was born in 1747 in Virginia.1 James' father was Hugh Grimes and his mother was Elizabeth Whitehead. His paternal grandfather was Walter Grimes. He was an only child.
James and Sarah were married in a religious ceremony in 1777 in Duplin County, North Carolina.1 They had eight sons and four daughters, named Lewis, James, Jr., William, John, Thomas, Stephen, Isaac, Bryan, daughter, daughter, daughter and daughter.
