Thomas was born on June 14th, 1859 in Akaroa, Canterbury, New Zealand.1   Thomas' father was Robert (Spinaway) Howson and his mother was Jane Ann Urwin.  His paternal grandparents were Thomas Howson and Jane Dankin. He had four brothers and a sister, named Urn, James, Alfred, Edward and Mary.  He was the oldest of the six children. He had three half-brothers and five half-sisters, named Edmund, William, Henry, <Unknown>, Eva, Olive, Adeline and Gladys.  He died at the age of 30 in September 1889.  The funeral took place on September 24th, 1889 and was arranged by Philip Reilly.  He was buried on September 24th, 1889.
