Elsie was born in 1889.  Elsie's father was John (Urn) Urwin Howson and her mother was Caroline George.  Her paternal grandparents were Robert (Spinaway) Howson and Jane Ann Urwin. She had five brothers, and also a sibling of unknown gender named Robert, Frederick, John, Harold, Arthur and <Unknown>.  She was the fifth oldest of the seven children.
