Paul was born on 25-Sep-1901.  Paul's father was Michael Smollich and his mother was Emilie Bascheck.  His paternal grandfather was Johann Smollich.  He was the oldest of seven children.  He had a brother and five sisters, named Kurt, Helene, Hanna, Charlotte, Edith and Hildegard.  He died, at the age of 64, in 1965.

Paul and Lydia were married in a religious ceremony on 26-Oct-1922 in Belgard.They had three daughters named Ruth, Ursula and Irmgard.
