William was born in 1798 in Beer Devon.  William's father was William Hodge Boalch and his mother is Phoebe Litton.  His paternal grandparents are John Boalch and Mary Hodge. He had two brothers and four sisters, named John, Robert, Mary, Ann, Sarah and Elizabeth.  He was the third oldest of the seven children.  He died at the age of 87 in June 1885 in Beer Devon.
