Mary was born in 1802 in Beer Devon.  Mary's father was William Hodge Boalch and her mother is Phoebe Litton.  Her paternal grandparents are John Boalch and Mary Hodge. She had three brothers and three sisters, named John, Robert, William, Ann, Sarah and Elizabeth.  She is the fourth oldest of the seven children.
