Peter was born in July 1777.  Peter's father was Martin Skewes and his mother was Mary Polkinghorne.  His paternal grandparents were Martin Skewes and Mary Coad; his maternal grandparents are Joseph Polkinghorne and <Unknown>. He had four brothers and two sisters, named Martin, John, Thomas, John, Elizabeth and Elizabeth.  He was the second youngest of the seven children.
