John was born in March 1767.  John's father was Martin Skewes and his mother was Mary Polkinghorne.  His paternal grandparents were Martin Skewes and Mary Coad; his maternal grandparents are Joseph Polkinghorne and <Unknown>. He had four brothers and two sisters, named Martin, Thomas, Peter, John, Elizabeth and Elizabeth.  He was the third oldest of the seven children.  He died at the age of 66 on July 7th, 1833.
