Martin was born in June 1764.  Martin's father was Martin Skewes and his mother was Mary Polkinghorne.  His paternal grandparents were Martin Skewes and Mary Coad; his maternal grandparents are Joseph Polkinghorne and <Unknown>. He had four brothers and two sisters, named John, Thomas, Peter, John, Elizabeth and Elizabeth.  He was the second oldest of the seven children.  He died at the age of 65 in November 1829.
