Jan was born in 1651 in Brakel and his baptism took place there on December 28th, 1651.1 2   Jan's father was Jacob Janszn Huibertszn van Willigen and his mother was Neeltje Jansdr N.N..  His paternal grandparents were Jan Huijbertszn van Willigen and Geurtje Jansdr Blanken. He had two brothers and two sisters, named Jan Jacobszn, Adriaen Jacobszn, Anneken and Teuntje Jacobsdr.  He was the youngest of the five children. He had four half-brothers and two half-sisters, named Willem Jacobszn, Jan, Huijbert Jacobszn, Gijsbert Jacobszn, Jacobjen and Aagje Jacobsdr.
