Jan Jacobszn was born in 1641 in Brakel and his baptism took place there on November 14th, 1641.1 2  Jan Jacobszn's father was Jacob Janszn Huibertszn van Willigen and his mother was Neeltje Jansdr N.N..  His paternal grandparents were Jan Huijbertszn van Willigen and Geurtje Jansdr Blanken. He had two brothers and two sisters, named Adriaen Jacobszn, Jan, Anneken and Teuntje Jacobsdr.  He was the second oldest of the five children. He had four half-brothers and two half-sisters, named Willem Jacobszn, Jan, Huijbert Jacobszn, Gijsbert Jacobszn, Jacobjen and Aagje Jacobsdr.
