Pieternella was born on February 10th, 1812 in Wijk.1  Pieternella's father was Cornelis Verhagen and her mother was Pieternella van Wijk.  Her paternal grandparents were Arij Verhagen and Anneke Kameraad; her maternal grandparents are Gijsbert van Wijk and Maria van Kuijk. She had two brothers and six sisters, named Arien, Arien, Maria, Teuntje, Gijsbertje, Anneke, Bartieaantje and Bastiaantje.  She was the youngest of the nine children.  She died at the age of 64 on February 25th, 1876 in Wijk en Aalburg.2
