Maria was born on May 13th, 1797 in Aalburg and her baptism took place there on May 14th, 1797.1  Maria's father was Cornelis Verhagen and her mother was Pieternella van Wijk.  Her paternal grandparents were Arij Verhagen and Anneke Kameraad; her maternal grandparents are Gijsbert van Wijk and Maria van Kuijk. She had two brothers and six sisters, named Arien, Arien, Teuntje, Gijsbertje, Anneke, Bartieaantje, Bastiaantje and Pieternella.  She was the second oldest of the nine children.  She died at the age of 66 on January 6th, 1864 in Wijk en Aalburg.1
