Pieter was born on March 23rd, 1799 in IJsselstein and his baptism took place there on March 31st, 1799.1  Pieter's father was Cornelis Otterspoor and his mother was Cornelia Hoogendoorn.  His paternal grandparents were Johannes Pieterszn Otterspoor and Willemijntje van Rooyen; his maternal grandfather was Pieter Hoogendoorn and his maternal grandmother is Sandertje Ververs. He had four brothers and four sisters, named Jan, Pieter, Cornelis, Sander, Willemijntje, Willemijntje, Pietertje and Sannetje.  He is the fourth oldest of the nine children. He had a half-brother and three half-sisters, named Barent Dirkje, Kaatje, Antonia and Cornelia.
