Jacoba was born in 1773 in Loon op Zand and her baptism took place there on April 18th, 1773.1  Jacoba's father was Dirk van der Leij and her mother was Dingena Hommel.  Her paternal grandparents were Wouter Goverdszn van der Leij and Dorothea Petersdr de Rooij; her maternal grandparents were Michiel Jacobszn Hommel and Jacomijna Willemsdr de Geus. She had three brothers and three sisters, named Wouter, Magiel, Peeter, Jacomijna, Dingena and Doora.  She was the youngest of the seven children.  She died at the age of 67 on January 30th, 1840 in Capelle (Noord Brabant).2
