Willem was born on April 18th, 1824 in Ermelo.1  Willem's father was Willem Aalten van den Broek and his mother was Hendrikje Jansdr Ruitenberg.  His paternal grandparents were Aalt Brandszn van den Broek and Bartje Jansdr N.N.; his maternal grandparents were Jan Jurriaanszn Ruitenberg and Geurtje Stoffels. He had five brothers and two sisters, named Jan, Aalt, Derk, Hendrik, Brand, Bartje and Geurtje.  He was the youngest of the eight children.  He died at the age of 83 on January 18th, 1908 in Harderwijk.1
