Bartje was born in August 1809 in Ermelo and her baptism took place there on August 25th, 1809.1  Bartje's father was Willem Aalten van den Broek and her mother was Hendrikje Jansdr Ruitenberg.  Her paternal grandparents were Aalt Brandszn van den Broek and Bartje Jansdr N.N.; her maternal grandparents were Jan Jurriaanszn Ruitenberg and Geurtje Stoffels. She had six brothers and a sister, named Jan, Aalt, Derk, Hendrik, Brand, Willem and Geurtje.  She was the second oldest of the eight children.  She died at the age of 42 on November 29th, 1851 in Ermelo.1
