Geurtje was born on December 15th, 1815 in Ermelo.1  Geurtje's father was Willem Aalten van den Broek and her mother was Hendrikje Jansdr Ruitenberg.  Her paternal grandparents were Aalt Brandszn van den Broek and Bartje Jansdr N.N.; her maternal grandparents were Jan Jurriaanszn Ruitenberg and Geurtje Stoffels. She had six brothers and a sister, named Jan, Aalt, Derk, Hendrik, Brand, Willem and Bartje.  She was the fifth oldest of the eight children.  She died at the age of 47 on May 29th, 1863 in Ermelo.2
