Brand was born in September 1763 in Harderwijk and his baptism took place there on September 4th, 1763.1  Brand's father was Aalt Brandszn van den Broek and his mother was Bartje Jansdr N.N..  His paternal grandparents were Brand Geurtszn van den Broek and Hendrikjen Willemsdr Timmer. He had four brothers and a sister, named Jan Aalten, Hendrik Aalten, Klaas Aalten, Willem Aalten and Dirkje Aaltsdr.  He was the oldest of the six children.  He died at the age of 63 on March 17th, 1827 in Ermelo.1
