Lewis was born on August 9th, 1878 in Spitalfields.1   Lewis' father was Abraham  Heiser and his mother was Sarah Levy.  His paternal grandparents were Samuel Heiser and <Unknown>; his maternal grandparents were Barnett  (Judah) Levy and Elizabeth Levy. He had seven brothers and five sisters, named Samuel, Michael, Reuben, Harris, Joseph, David, Solomon, Miriam, Julia, Rosa, Betsy and Priscilla.  He was the youngest of the thirteen children.

Lewis' family

Lewis and Isabella were married in a religious ceremony on July 3rd, 1900 in New Road Synagogue.  They had three sons and three daughters, named Emmanuel, Hyman, Alfred, Sarah, Kitty and Sylvia.
