William was born on April 26th, 1829.  William's father was William Wharin and his mother is Sarah Butterworth.  His paternal grandparents were Jarvis Wharin and Mary Barber. He had four sisters named Mary, Sarah, Ann and Frances.  He was the second oldest of the five children.  He died at the age of 87 on April 4th, 1917.
