Asher (Arthur) Spencer

Asher, known as Arthur, was born in 1836 in Bursledon, Hampshire.¹ Arthur's father was Henry Spencer and his mother was Susanna Emery. His paternal grandparents were Henry Spencer and Ann Carter; his maternal grandparents were Edward Emery and Mary Smith. He had two brothers and four sisters, named George, Hiram, Jane, Ellen, Mary and Harriet. He was the second oldest of the seven children. He died at the age of 77 in June 1913 in Southampton, Hampshire.²

  On marriage certificate christian name is Asher [perhaps he preferred to be known as Arthur, the name his family only ever knew him by].
  His grandson George's other christian names were Henry Asher, so it seems relevant.
