Joshua was born in 1726 in Botley, Hampshire and his christening took place there on February 26th, 1726.1 2   Joshua's father was Jacob Emery and his mother was Elizabeth Markes.  His paternal grandparents were Andrew Emery and Sarah; his maternal grandparents were James Markes and Elizabeth Fox. He had two brothers and four sisters, named Jacob, Thomas, Elizabeth, Mary, Sarah and Mary.  He was the oldest of the seven children.
