Thomas was born in 1739 in Botley, Hampshire and his christening took place there on June 29th, 1739.1 2   Thomas' father was Jacob Emery and his mother was Elizabeth Markes.  His paternal grandparents were Andrew Emery and Sarah; his maternal grandparents were James Markes and Elizabeth Fox. He had two brothers and four sisters, named Joshua, Jacob, Elizabeth, Mary, Sarah and Mary.  He was the youngest of the seven children.
