Ann was born in 1836 in Whitehaven, Cumberland.1   Ann's father was William Quirk and her mother was Elizabeth Pendergrass.  Her paternal grandparents were Edward Quirk and Ann Allan; her maternal grandparents were John Pendergrass and Elizabeth Murphy. She had three brothers and a sister, named Edward, William, John and Elizabeth.  She was the oldest of the five children.  She died at the age of 34 in 1870.2
