William was born on July 6th, 1808 in Whitehaven, Cumberland and his christening took place on August 9th, 1808 in St Nicholas, Whitehaven, Cumberland.1  William's father was Edward Quirk and his mother was Ann Allan.  His paternal grandparents were Edward Quirk and Isabella. He had five brothers and four sisters, named Edward, John, Edward, James, Thomas, Ann, Isabella, Martha and Elizabeth.
