Robert was born in 1700 in Newton Toney, Wiltshire and his christening took place there on December 16th, 1700.1 2   Robert's father was Benjamin Piper and his mother was Barbara Dennett.  His maternal grandparents were Johannis Dennett and Sivob Burratt. He had two brothers and two sisters, named Benjamin, Joseph, Martha and Mary.  He was the second youngest of the five children. He had a half-sister named Sarah.
