John was born in 1732 in Oakley, Hampshire and his christening took place there on January 9th, 1732.1 2   John's father was William Oliver and his mother was Mary. He had three brothers and five sisters, named William, James, Thomas, Mary, Elizabeth, Hannah, Dinah and Esther.  He was the second oldest of the nine children.
