Julia was born in 1831 in Penzance, Cornwall.1   Julia's father was Isaac Newton and her mother was Elizabeth Gendall.  Her paternal grandparents were William Newton and Frances Drew. She had three brothers and two sisters, named Alexander, Robert, Isaac, Elizabeth and Fanny.  She was the second youngest of the six children.
