Elizabeth was born in 1821 in Stoke St Gregory, Somerset.1   Elizabeth's father was James Laver and her mother was Angel Cottle. She had a brother and four sisters, named Wiliam, Mary Ann, Charlotte, Sarah and Sarah.  She was the oldest of the six children.
