Emma was born on August 2nd, 1888 in 22 Winchester Street, St Mathew, Bethnal Green, Middlesex and her christening took place on August 26th, 1888 in St James the Great, Bethnal Green, Middlesex.1  Emma's father was James Raphael Horncastle and her mother was Emma Elizabeth Ilott.  Her paternal grandparents were Thomas James Horncastle and Elizabeth Ritchie; her maternal grandparents were John Samuel Ilott and Emma Elizabeth Morgan. She had two brothers and two sisters, named John, James, Elizabeth and Mary.  She was the second oldest of the five children. She had four half-brothers named James, Benjamin, Thomas and Alfred.  She died at 10 months old in June 1889 in Bethnal Green, Middlesex.2
