Thomas was born in March 1796 in Whitechapel, Middlesex and his christening took place on November 23rd, 1800 in St Mary Whitechapel, Stepney, Middlesex.1 2  Thomas' father was William Horncastle and his mother was Sarah. He had four brothers and four sisters, named John, Samuel, William, James, Mary, Elizabeth, Lydia and Ann.  He was the youngest of the nine children.  He died at the age of 80 in March 1876 in St George in the East, Middlesex.3
