Ann was born in 1792 in Whitechapel, Middlesex and her christening took place in January 1792 in St Mary Whitechapel, Stepney, Middlesex.1 2   Ann's father was William Horncastle and her mother was Sarah. She had five brothers and three sisters, named John, Samuel, William, James, Thomas, Mary, Elizabeth and Lydia.  She was the third youngest of the nine children.
