Edward was born on October 17th, 1916 in Mile End, Middlesex.1  Edward's father was John Francis Horncastle and his mother was Emma Elizabeth Webb.  His paternal grandparents were Samuel John Horncastle and Elizabeth Howard Richardson. He had three brothers and four sisters, named John, Samuel, George, Emma, Caroline, Eliza and Sophia.  He was the youngest of the eight children.  He died at the age of 71 in February 1988 in Tower Hamlets, London.2
