William was born on August 2nd, 1803 in Rawcliffe Bridge, Yorkshire.1   William's father was John Hall and his mother was Elizabeth Moverley.  His paternal grandparents were William Hall and Ann Nailer; his maternal grandparents were Thomas Moverley and Ann Weldrake. He had five brothers named Thomas, Edward, John, George and James.  He was the oldest of the six children.
