Thomas was born on November 22nd, 1808 in Drypool, Hull, Yorkshire.1   Thomas' father was John Hall and his mother was Elizabeth Moverley.  His paternal grandparents were William Hall and Ann Nailer; his maternal grandparents were Thomas Moverley and Ann Weldrake. He had five brothers named William, Edward, John, George and James.  He was the second oldest of the six children.
