James was born on December 16th, 1819 in Rawcliffe Bridge, Yorkshire and his christening took place on January 9th, 1820 in Rawcliffe, East Riding, Yorkshire.1 2   James' father was John Hall and his mother was Elizabeth Moverley.  His paternal grandparents were William Hall and Ann Nailer; his maternal grandparents were Thomas Moverley and Ann Weldrake. He had five brothers named William, Thomas, Edward, John and George.  He was the youngest of the six children.
