George was born on August 7th, 1816 in Newcastle, Northumberland.1   George's father was John Hall and his mother was Elizabeth Moverley.  His paternal grandparents were William Hall and Ann Nailer; his maternal grandparents were Thomas Moverley and Ann Weldrake. He had five brothers named William, Thomas, Edward, John and James.  He was the second youngest of the six children.
