Edward was born on August 7th, 1811 in Drypool, Hull, Yorkshire.1   Edward's father was John Hall and his mother was Elizabeth Moverley.  His paternal grandparents were William Hall and Ann Nailer; his maternal grandparents were Thomas Moverley and Ann Weldrake. He had five brothers named William, Thomas, John, George and James.  He was the third oldest of the six children.
