Thomas was born in 1798 in Harnham, Salisbury, Wiltshire.1   Thomas' father was William Dear and his mother was Jane Parrick.  His paternal grandparents were John Dear and Hannah Ryan. He had five brothers and two sisters, named William, James, Samuel, Henry, John, Mary and Jane.  He was the third oldest of the eight children.  He died at the age of 83 in 1881 in Alderbury, Wiltshire.1
