Henry was born on August 9th, 1804 in Harnham, Salisbury, Wiltshire.1   Henry's father was William Dear and his mother was Jane Parrick.  His paternal grandparents were John Dear and Hannah Ryan. He had five brothers and two sisters, named William, Thomas, James, Samuel, John, Mary and Jane.  He was the third youngest of the eight children.
