George was born in 1800 in Eling, Hampshire and his christening took place there on January 11th, 1801.1 2   George's father was Robert Bromfield and his mother was Ann Plomley. He had four brothers and four sisters, named William, Henry, Frederick, Peter, Elizabeth, Mary, Ann and Ann.  He was the fourth oldest of the nine children.
