Frederick was born in 1809 in Eling, Hampshire and his christening took place there on August 27th, 1809.1 2   Frederick's father was Robert Bromfield and his mother was Ann Plomley. He had four brothers and four sisters, named William, George, Henry, Peter, Elizabeth, Mary, Ann and Ann.  He was the second youngest of the nine children.
