Samuel was born in 1867 in Horsforth Yorkshire and his baptism took place on June 9th, 1869 in St James Low Lane Horsforth Yorkshire.1 2   Samuel's father was James Jackson and his mother was Margaret Agnes Jackson.  His paternal grandparents were David Jackson and Mary Ann Rhodes; his maternal grandparents are Isaac Nichols and Janet Miller. He had three brothers and six sisters, named Fred, Harry, Thomas, Ellen, Mary Ann, Janet, Eva, Alice and Ada.  He is the oldest of the ten children.
