John was born on January 11th, 1833 in Wivenhoe.¹ John's father was Thomas (Shipbuilder) Harvey and his mother was Mary Elizabeth Martin. His paternal grandparents were Robert Harvey and Susannah Ellingford; his maternal grandparents are <Unknown> and <Unknown>. He had five brothers and a sister, named Thomas, Halifax yard ipswich, Joseph, Edward, Shipwrights Arms West St and Caroline. He was the fifth oldest of the seven children. He had a half-brother and two half-sisters, named Fred, Mary and Sarah. He died at the age of 68 on May 5th, 1901 in Guys Hospital.¹
