    Orrison Champlin, son of Francis Cole Champlin and Rachel Gibbons, was born in Jackson or Vinton County, Ohio on November 19, 1826. He died of "stomach trouble" at Hamden Junction (Vinton County) Ohio on October 5, 1908 and was buried in Hamden Cemetery. Orrison had been a teamster.
    
        In the 1850 Census, he was enumerated at Decatur (Lawrence County) Ohio as "Anderson Champlain".
    
        He married four times.
    
        On August 12, 1851 Orrison married (1st) Sarah Jane Douglas. She was born in 1835 and bore Orrison six children:

        On October 12, 1865 Orrison married (2nd) Ellen Simons in Vinton County. Ellen was born in 1836. She died (as Catherine Champlin) on July 14, 1889. She bore him seven children:

        Ellen Simons was enumerated in the 1860 Census as Catherine Salmons, age 20, born in Vinton County, Ohio. She was the daughter of James and Mary (-?-) Salmons. She was called Ellen Sammons in Orrison's Civil War Pension File. She was born in 1836 in Alabama according to the 1880 Census. Her marriage record on file in Vinton County calls her Ellen Riley. The Gibbens Family Genealogy calls her Ellen Simmons. William Stanley Champlin's birth certificate calls her Ellendis Catherine Salmon.
    
        Orrison served in the Civil War, enlisting at Reed's Hill on August 9, 1862 and being discharged with his unit at Camp Harker, Tennessee on June 13, 1865. He served under Lt. Samuel Yeoman in Company "B" of the 90th Regiment of Ohio Volunteer Infantry. On December 1, 1862 while in the infantry at Nashville, Orrison developed heart disease, which was attributed to hard marching and exposure. On or about October 1862, Orrison also developed rheumatism in his back and legs - also allegedly due to exposure. The following month, while at Stone River, Tennessee, Orrison developed piles - a condition he blamed on exposure and army food.
    
           According to his Pension File, he had these residences in the five years preceding his enlistment: Hamden Junction, Ohio; Louisville, Kentucky; Buckley Furnace, Ohio; and Hamden Furnace, Ohio. After the War, he resided at Mount Savage Furnace, Ohio (1870); a farm near Grayson, Kentucky (1875); Hamden Junction, Ohio (1882); and Clinton, Ohio (1900 Census).
    
        In the 1870 Census, Orrin (43 Ohio) was a teamster enumerated in Clinton Township (Vinton County) Ohio with wife Ellen (35 Alabama), daughter Elizabeth Murray (10 Alabama), Perlina Murray (9 Alabama), daughter Eliza (4 Ohio), daughter Ellen (2 Ohio), son William (6/12 Ohio) and son Oren (8 Ohio). [Who were the Murray girls, exactly? Were they Ellen's by a previous marriage? Were they adopted?]
    
        In the 1880 Census, Orrison (54 Oh) was a farmer enumerated in Carter County, Kentucky with wife Ellen (44 Alabama) daughter Perlina (18 Ken), daughter Eliza (14 Ken), daughter Ella (12 Ken), son William S. (10 Ken), son Frances M. (8 Ken), son Charles L. (7 Ken) and son Joseph (4 Ken).
    
        On April 6, 1881 Orrison (54) a resident of Grayson (Carter County) Kentucky appeared before a clerk of the County Court there to apply for a pension. His physical description at the time was age 54, 5 feet 7 and a half inches tall with fair complexion, black hair, blue eyes and a teamster by trade.
    
        On April 3, 1890, Orrison married (3rd) Minerva Jane Gates at Hamden Junction, Ohio. She was born in June 1842. There were no children born to this union. Minerva died of heart disease.
    
        In the 1900 Census, Orrison was enumerated on a rented farm in Clinton Township (Vinton County) Ohio with wife Minerva.
    
        On January 25, 1908 Orrison married (4th) Mrs. Sarah F. (Hawkins) Click at Hamden Junction in a wedding ceremony conducted by A.W. Bingham, Minister of the Gospel. Sarah, daughter of John Hawkins and Delia White, was born in Kentucky on May 18, 1852 and died of stomach cancer on April 13, 1929 at Hamden Junction, Ohio. She was buried at Coalton, Ohio. Prior to marrying Orrison, Sarah had been married (1st) to John R. Click who died on May 18, 1890. John and Sarah had children Edward and Margaret. 
    
        In the 1910 Census, Sarah was enumerated living with her son, Edward who was to predecease her. Sarah was survived by daughter Margaret (Click) Frazee.
        The following obituary appeared in the October 7, 1908 edition of the Wellston Telegram: "Oris Champlin, an aged resident of Hamden, died at his home Monday of stomach trouble. Mr. Champlin, who was a Civil War veteran, was 83 years old and is survived by eight children. The funeral was held today with interment in Hamden Cemetery."
    
        The following obituary appeared in the October 15, 1908 edition of the Democrat Enquirer:
    
        "Orrison Champlin died Monday afternoon at his home in East Clinton Township, aged 83 years. The funeral was held at the house Wednesday afternoon, Fenton Post G.A.R. having charge of the services. Burial in Hamden Cemetery."
