    Calvin Champlin, son of Francis Cole Champlin and Rachel Gibbons, was born in Vinton County Ohio on November 23, 1833 and was living at RFD #3 Wellston (Jackson County) Ohio in 1910.
    
    He married (1st) Elizabeth C. Wise in 1855 and they had children:

    During the Civil War, Calvin served in the Indiana Volunteers. In 1883, he was collecting an Invalid Pension as a result of injury or illness incurred during the war. The following data was extracted from his Civil War Pension File. Calvin was drafted on September 30, 1864 and reported to the rendezvous camp in Greensburg, Indiana on October 7th. The base Surgeon gave him a physical examination and found him to be fit for duty. Calvin was assigned on November 24, 1864 by Lt. Daniel Jones "in charge of rolls at headquarters draft rendezvous Indianapolis by order of General Carrington in charge" to be a clerk "in said headquarters for which he drew rations and pay in full until April 7, 1865" when he was discharged by order of the Surgeon. He was diagnosed as suffering from "Phthisis pulmonatis with emaciation".
    
    At the time of discharge, Calvin was described as being five feet eight inches tall with dark complexion, hazel eyes and dark hair; age 36; a former school teacher. Calvin lived for a time at Wellston, Ohio but his wife, Elizabeth, died at Napoleon, Indiana in 1870.
    
    In the 1870 Census, Calvin (36 Oh) was an insurance agent enumerated in Versailles, Center Township (Ripley County) Indiana with wife Elizabeth (33 Ind), daughter Delphina (14 Ind), son Albert (9 Ind), son Warren (6 Ind) and student John Wise (22 Ind).
    John Wise was probably Elizabeth's brother.
    
    Following the death of his first wife, Calvin married (2nd) Mary Elizabeth Lockman on July 11, 1871. Mary, daughter of Stephen Lockman, was born at Dupont, Indiana in 1840 and died at Dover Hill, Indiana in 1880.

    In 1875 they were living in Orleans, Indiana. I have a photocopy of a seven page hand written account of a local event entitled "The Odd Fellow's Burial" written by "Mollie E. L. Champlin, Orleans, March 12, 1875".
    
    In 1884 Calvin married (3rd) Margaret Ann Foster of Jackson County, Ohio. They had no children. Margaret was born in Kentucky on May 5, 1846 and died on March 23, 1907. She was buried in the Ridgewood Cemetery at Milton Township (Jackson County) Ohio.
    
    On June 28, 1894 Calvin's son Albert (age 34) of Wetumpka in the Creek Nation of the Indian Territory, signed an affidavit stating that Calvin could only perform "....1/4 of a man's work and he would have to take his time to do that much. he has been hemorhage of the lungs spitting blood also hart and stomach trouble. He never has had good health since the War. I have lived near and with him for 20 years 1885".
    
    On June 4, 1898 and again on August 17, 1899 Calvin completed a questionnaire regarding his pension and provided the following information:
    
    He was presently married to Margaret Ann (Foster) and had been married to her by Reverend C.A. Price of Coalton (Jackson County) Ohio.
    
    He was previously married to Mary E. Lockman of Dupont, Indiana but she had died at Dover Hill, Indiana in 1880.
    
    He had two children living: Mrs. Della M. Spalding (born 1855) and Mary Champlin (born 1875).
    
    On June 27, 1910 Calvin (73) resident of RFD #3, Wellston, Ohio wrote and filed another affidavit outlining details of his military service. He did receive a pension but his file does not say how much or until when.
    
    In the 1900 Census Calvin, Margaret and daughter Mary were enumerated in Washington Township (Jackson County) Ohio. He was called a farmer.
    
    In the 1910 Census, Calvin was enumerated as a farmer in Jackson County, Ohio.

OH, neighbor heads of h/hold include miners (coal - 8x), "firemen" (on B&O RR), carpenter, farmers, laborers (1 in a shoe factory).
