Mary was born on December 25th, 1860 in Old Kilpatrick.1 2  Mary's father was William Turner and her mother was Jessie Calder.  Her paternal grandparents were Peter Turner Sr. and Mary Russell. She had two brothers and six sisters, named Peter, John, Ina, Eliza, Jessie, Jane, Agnes and Eliza.  She was the third oldest of the nine children.  She died at the age of 83 in 1943 in Edinburgh.
